Product information
The active substance is ferric gluconate in a dose of 200 mg, which corresponds to 23.2 mg of ferric ions.
1 coated tablet contains 200 mg of ferrous gluconate.
Excipients are: ascorbic acid, talc, potato starch, stearic acid, propylene glycol and Aqua-Polish P red coating consisting of: hypromellose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, macrogol, triglycerides of medium-chain saturated fatty acids, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), red allura AC, lacquer (E 129), black iron oxide (E 172), red iron oxide ?1172).
dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
adult
- Therapeutic: normally 2 coated tablets three times a day with or after food; in case of serious deficiencies, 2 dragees 4 times a day.
- Preventive: approx. 60 mg of iron (3 coated tablets) daily in divided doses.
Use in children
- Treatment in children older than 3 years: 4 to 6 mg of iron per kg of body weight per day in divided doses.
- Preventive: 2 mg per kg of body weight daily in divided doses.

Iron deficiency can affect red blood cell formation and tissue ventilation by reducing the amount of proteins that transport and consume oxygen (hemoglobin and myoglobin).
Indication
Intended use:
- Iron deficiency related to blood loss
- Conditions of increased need for iron in the body (in children, during intensive growth, during pregnancy and breastfeeding);
- Conditions related to malabsorption or a low iron diet.
Contraindication
When not to use Ascofer :
- in blood diseases: hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis (pigmented cirrhosis, characterized by increased absorption and excessive deposition of iron in internal organs), hemolytic and aplastic anemia, proliferative diseases;
- in cirrhosis of the liver;
- in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this product can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, upper abdominal pain.
- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity reactions.

Protect from light and moisture.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking or have recently taken, and about any medicines you plan to take.
Taking the medicine with food and drink
It is not recommended to take the drug at the same time as coffee, tea, eggs, foods containing bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates or phosphates, milk or milk products, whole grain bread or cereals and other products containing fiber, as they can reduce the absorption of iron.
Oral iron supplements should not be taken one hour before or two hours after eating these foods.
