Altabactin is a medicinal product used for small wounds and cuts. It contains two substances with antibacterial action: neomycin and bacitracin. The use of two antibiotics extends the range of action of the drug. Altabactin does not work on fungi and viruses and some types of bacteria (Pseudomonas, Nocardia).
Indications
In the local treatment of bacterial infections of small skin areas (e.g. infection of small wounds, skin infection associated with frostbite and burns).
Composition
1g of ointment contains: active substances: bacitracin 250IU, neomycin 5mg and auxiliary substances: lanolin and liquid paraffin.
Dosage
Externally to the skin. Use 2 to 3 times a day. A thin layer of ointment should be applied to the affected area of the skin. If necessary, it can be covered with a dressing. Do not use for longer than 7 days.
Contraindications
- are allergic to bacitracin, neomycin, other aminoglycoside antibiotics or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- do not use on large skin areas, in case of severe skin damage or for a long time, due to the risk of toxic effects of the drug on the kidneys and hearing, including hearing loss;
- severe heart or kidney problems;
- damage to the hearing organ (vestibular or cochlear);
- perforated eardrum (perforation), do not apply ointment to the outer ear;
- do not apply to eyes or mucous membranes;
- do not use on deep or puncture wounds or oozing lesions;
- do not use on severe burns;
- do not use on large areas of damaged skin.
