The medicine must not be taken – if you are allergic to calcium carbonate or any other ingredient of this medicine, if the calcium concentration in the blood is too high (hypercalcemia). Increased calcium concentration regularly occurs with increased activity of the parathyroid glands (hyperparathyroidism). It can also occur with an overdose of vitamin D; some tumors such as lung cancer (bronchial carcinoma), breast cancer (mammary carcinoma), kidney cancer (hypernephroma), some forms of blood cancer (plasmacytoma) and bone metastases, some lung diseases (sarcoidosis, Beck’s disease); immobilization of the limbs (immobilization osteoporosis), with a decrease in the serum phosphate content (hypophosphatemia), with calcium-containing kidney stones, in the absence of free hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice. Film-coated tablets should be taken whole, if possible with a small amount of liquid, immediately before or during meals. Recommended dose: Adult – The dosage is always determined after consultation with your doctor. When determining individual and daily doses, the phosphate content and the number of meals must be taken into account. The dosage range is 1 to 3 tablets 3 times a day, for example, 1 tablet during breakfast, 3 tablets during lunch and 2 tablets during dinner. The maximum dose of 7 tablets (corresponding to 1400 mg of calcium) should not be exceeded. Children and adolescents (under 18 years): its use cannot be recommended for these patients. Duration of use: Therapy with a phosphate binder in patients with chronic renal failure is long-term and requires regular medical supervision. Calcium overdose can lead to high calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia). If you accidentally take too many tablets, consult a doctor. Overdose symptoms may include muscle weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, extreme thirst, abnormal heart rhythm, and loss of consciousness. If the calcium level in the blood is elevated, the dose should be reduced. In patients on dialysis, the calcium content in the dialysis fluid may also temporarily decrease. There are no reports of harmful effects of calcium during pregnancy and breastfeeding in humans. Serum calcium levels should be closely monitored during pregnancy, as prolonged hypercalcemia may result in physical malformations and mental retardation in the child.
