Betaisodona vaginal suppositories are suppositories for insertion into the vagina. They dissolve slowly after insertion, releasing the active ingredient. Povidone-iodine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses, and protozoa (single-celled organisms). Betaisodona vaginal suppositories enable rapid restoration of the natural vaginal environment. Burning and itching subside quickly. Due to their mode of action, there is no risk of resistance (resistance of infectious agents) to povidone-iodine. By binding to povidone, the iodine largely loses the irritating properties of alcoholic iodine preparations and is well tolerated by skin, mucous membranes, and wounds. During the action, the iodine loses its color; the depth of the brown color therefore indicates its effectiveness. If the iodine loses its color, a second dose is required. Povidone-iodine is water-soluble and easily washable. 

Areas of application 

• In acute and chronic vaginal infections, e.g. mixed infections, uncomplicated bacterial infections, fungal infections – even after antibiotic or cortisone therapy, trichomonad infections (infections with animal protozoa) – simultaneous systemic treatment may be prescribed by the doctor
• Pre- and post-treatment for vaginal operations and obstetric interventions 

If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 2-5 days, you must consult a doctor.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. 

Dosage and method of administration

• For vaginal use (application inside the vagina): Remove the Betaisodona vaginal suppository from the wrapper, moisten it thoroughly, and insert it deep into the vagina. Wearing a sanitary pad during treatment is recommended. The recommended dose is: Insert 1 Betaisodona vaginal suppository deep into the vagina in the evening before going to bed. Treatment must be carried out daily (even during menstruation). In stubborn cases, Betaisodona vaginal suppositories can also be used twice a day. To support this therapy, Betaisodona vaginal gel can be applied to the external genital area, particularly in cases of inflammation of the external vagina (vulvitis). Your partner should also always be treated with Betaisodona vaginal gel during treatment to prevent further infections. Do not use Betaisodona vaginal suppositories together with other vaginal products.
