- Contraindications
- if you are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you are taking nitrate medicines (available under various trade names):
- nitroglycerin
- isosorbide mononitrate
- isosorbide dinitrate
- pentaerythrityl tetranitrate
- because taking them together may lead to a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines – these medicines are often given for the relief of angina pectoris (“chest pain”). If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
- If you are taking medicines or other nitric oxide donors (such as amyl nitrite, so-called poppers), as taking them together may also lead to a dangerous decrease in blood pressure.
- If you are taking riociguat. This is a medicine used to treat pulmonary hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs caused by blood clots). PDE5 inhibitors such as DoppelSil MAX have been shown to enhance the blood pressure lowering effect of this medicine. If you are taking riociguat or are not sure, tell your doctor.
- If you have severe heart or liver disease.
- If you have recently had a stroke or heart attack, or if you have low blood pressure and your doctor has told you to avoid sexual activity.
- If you have hereditary degenerative changes to the retina, such as retinitis pigmentosa.
- If you have ever had loss of vision due to non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
