The active substance of the drug is levocetirizine in the form of dihydrochloride, which has an antiallergic effect: it inhibits skin reactions, including rash, urticaria, reduces the permeability of mucous membranes, including the nasal mucosa. The drug penetrates slightly into the central nervous system and usually does not have a sedative effect and does not cause drowsiness, so it is classified as a second-generation antihistamine. It is used to treat both chronic and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria. Levocetirizine improves the quality of life of people suffering from perennial allergic rhinitis.
Dosage
Adults and children over 6 years: 1 tablet (5 mg) daily.
Swallow the tablet whole with water.
The drug can be taken regardless of food intake.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. In the absence of improvement or deterioration in the patient’s well-being after 3 days from the start of taking the drug, you should consult a doctor. The drug should not be used for more than 10 days without consulting a doctor. In patients with hepatic insufficiency, dose reduction is usually not required. Patients with impaired renal function should consult a doctor about the possible need to reduce the dose of the drug. Contrahist Allergy tablets are not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
