The neurotransmitter melatonin, which is produced in the pineal gland in the brain when it is dark, controls our sleep-wake rhythm. The more melatonin there is in the brain, the deeper our sleep. Melatonin is produced from the neurotransmitter serotonin, which in turn is produced from the amino acid tryptophan. A drop in the serotonin level in the brain during the night’s rest phase can lead to sleep disorders. As a serotonin precursor, tryptophan is said to counteract a serotonin deficiency.
The tryptophan contained in ARDEYDORM® therefore has a sleep-inducing effect. It promotes sleep readiness and makes it easier to fall asleep if you have sleep problems.
Application
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, adults take 2 ARDEYDORM® tablets daily (equivalent to 1 g tryptophan). After consulting your doctor, this dose can be increased to up to 4 ARDEYDORM® tablets (equivalent to 2 g tryptophan).
Take the tablets with some liquid 20-30 minutes before going to bed.
After 3 – 4 weeks, your doctor should review the need for continued treatment with ARDEYDORM®.
