Composition
Active ingredients: 21 mg/24 h nicotine.
Excipients: 52.5 mg –>, Polyester film, siliconized, aluminized, Polyester film with aluminum coating, Triglycerides, medium chain, Acrylate/vinyl acetate copolymer, Butyl methacrylate copolymer, base, Printing ink, brown.
Scope
Nicotinell is a transdermal patch similar to a patch containing the active ingredient on the side that sticks to the skin. For smokers who want to quit smoking, this medicine is used to relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms in cases of nicotine addiction.
Dosage
Open the package by cutting it with scissors and remove the transdermal patch. Do not cut the Nicotinell transdermal patch. Remove the pre-cut peel-off protective film located on the side of the transdermal patch. This is the side that contains the active ingredient and is in contact with the skin.
Immediately after removing the protective film, apply the Nicotinell transdermal patch to an area of dry skin that is free of damage (cuts, scrapes or bruises) and has little body hair: shoulder blade, thigh, upper outer arm, etc. Avoid moving areas of the body, such as joints, that are subject to friction against clothing. Apply the whole, uncut patch to the skin.
To ensure a perfect fit, press firmly with the palm of your hand over the entire outer surface of the patch for at least 10 seconds.
Leave the patch in place for 24 hours. If you have trouble sleeping, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Change the Nicotinell transdermal patch every 24 hours. Also change the application site every day and, if possible, avoid applying to the same area for several days.
When removing the patch from the skin, fold it so that the side that touches the skin is folded inwards before disposing of it in a safe place.
Avoid contact with the eyes and nose while working and wash your hands after application. If you are swimming in the sea or a pool for a long time, you have two options:
Before swimming, remove the transdermal patch and stick it on the packaging immediately. You can reapply it later on dry skin.
Cover the transdermal patch with a waterproof adhesive bandage for the entire duration of the swim.
If you take a short shower, the patch can be left in place. Avoid directing the shower stream directly onto the pavement.
The duration of treatment is limited to 6 months.
Contraindications
Nicotinell transdermal patch should not be used: if you smoke irregularly or do not smoke at all, if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to nicotine or any other component of Nicotinell.
If you have stable cardiovascular disease, severe hypertension or heart failure.
If you have problems with the blood vessels in the brain or with blocked parts of the arteries,
if you are diabetic.
If you have an overactive thyroid gland or a tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).
If you have severe liver and/or kidney disease,
if you have an active stomach or duodenal ulcer.
If you have diseased skin.
Side effects
Some side effects may be serious allergic reactions such as swelling of the skin, swelling of the face and mouth, low blood pressure and difficulty breathing.
Some side effects are very common (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) and include reactions at the site of application, such as itching, redness, swelling and burning. If a severe skin reaction occurs and does not go away, stop treatment and ask your doctor or pharmacist about another form of nicotine replacement that will help you quit smoking.
Some common side effects (affecting 1 to 10 people in 100) include headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual dreams, muscle pain, difficulty sleeping, restlessness, anxiety, nervousness.
These effects are often mild and go away quickly after removing the patch.
Some side effects are rare (affect 1 to 10 people in 1,000): difficulty concentrating, drowsiness, mood swings, irritability, depressed mood, confusion, rapid heartbeat (feeling of heartbeat), vomiting. Mouth ulcers (painful, inflamed sores on the lining of the mouth) may be related to quitting smoking rather than to the treatment being given.
